Yves Saint Laurent's "Russian Ballet Collection" for autumn and winter was shown at the Inter Continentale Hotel in 1976. The collection is influenced by the work of Léon Bakst, and the Russian ballet company founded by Serge de Diaghilev at the beginning of the century. Russia is embodied in the traditional blouse with puffed sleeves, the wide and voluminous skirt, the bright colours, the luxurious textiles, the muslins, the silk and the velvets.... The work on the silhouette and clothing inspired by Russian craftsmanship is at the heart of Yves Saint Laurent's project to highlight the richness of Russian folklore.
